Scam Alert:

Starting April 6, 2009, State Bank of Aurora has been receiving calls regarding an apparent lottery/advance fee scam. People all across the US have been receiving checks in the mail accompanied by letters claiming that the victim has won a lottery. The letter requests that the victim send a portion of the funds from the check to the perpetrator via Western Union. The checks appear to be drawn on an account in the name of GE Group Inc. with State Bank of Aurora. No such account exists. These checks are fraudulent. Do not deposit or cash these checks.

If you receive one of these letters, feel free to fax or email a copy of the check and letter to us. We also recommend that you contact the Minnesota Department of Public Safety at 866-347-0911 (within Minnesota) or Phone Busters at 888-495-8501 (outside of Minnesota).
